It was a sad day yet again for the Dutch fans.
But a great day for Germany fans, like my husband!
We tried to take a picture in the stadium, but the lighting makes it hard to see our faces. Or the Germany EURO2012 tshirt Steve is wearing, or my Nederland v Deutschland commemorative match scarf!
Also, Steve saw this Asian girl in a really cute Germany outfit and demanded I take his picture with her. Naturally, her friend (and Billy) jumped in too. Billy is such a ladies man.
We started a trend, because right after that, a whole group of people walked up to them asking to take their picture. Those girls, who were Asian, not German, and didn't speak a word of English or German or Dutch or Ukrainian or whatever else people were talking to them in, were so confused!
Steve was like a giddy little kid, taking little videos of the German team warming up. All the big shots, live!
It was a really good game. Netherlands came out looking a lot better than they have been, but Germany is definitely the team to beat this tournament. We sat next to another couple cheering for Germany, but we were kind of in the middle of a group of Oranje fans. Steve and the other guy exchanged high fives over my head when Germany scored, and I helped keep the girl from falling headfirst into the rows in front of us when she got a little too excited.
After the game, the little 24-hour market by our hostel was teeming with people buying beer: Germany fans (like us) buying beer to celebrate, and Dutch fans to drown their sorrows.
Don't worry, Netherlands, all you have to do is beat the crap out of Portugal and hope Germany beats Denmark, then you're still in! And please do so, because Portugal is probably my least favorite team in this tournament. :P
The German fans have had, so far, the most enthusiasm of all the fans we've seen. The most organized enthusiasm, anyway. They did so many different chants and songs and dances that were all synchronized all the way around the stadium. Their energy is amazing.
They might be topped in the England-Ukraine game that we'll be watching next week, though. We'll see!
Nice picture of both of you (w/ Billy)... LOVE mom.
